There’s a lot currently being said and written about Yuck. Concerning their gorgeous slacker pop sound and the great melodies they casually toss about and throw away in their songs. Yes there are the retrospective Lemonheads, Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh vibes the borrow from too. But if you dig past the obvious statements and superficial connections there’s a warm underbelly of joyous tunes ripe to hug you and make your heart smile, even if that would be an anatomical oddity.

If you need any further reason to watch Yuck live two of their personnel are former members of Cajun Dance Party and fans of that band may recall their inherent knack for writing songs you could shake your ass to like it was a bad habit.

Touring in support of their recently released, eponymous album Unknown Mortal Orchestra are taking their fuzzy, lo-fidelity pop hooks to the masses and doing a damn fine job of extending their appeal beyond the internet sensation, in certain hip circles at least, that was the infectiously catchy Ffunny Ffriends.

Of course UMO are Portland based although bandleader Ruban Nielson is a New Zealand native so following their ever expanding world tour they return ‘home’ presumably to a ticker tape parade as all conquering slacker pop practitioners.

No? Then at least to an appreciative crowd keen on hearing whip smart, hummable tunes liberally echoing the music of Can. What’s not to like there?
