X Japan.

Who is X Japan? Long story short, they are the most influential Japanese band ever. They are KISS, Metallica, Rush, David Bowie, Queen and uh Richard Marx all rolled into one pyrotechnic explosion. They pioneered the Visual Kei movement, inventing the look of new Japanese rock music, propelling Japanese fashion into the modern era, and creating fodder for the “hey, Japan is weird” sentiment for years to come. Their members have written for and produced almost all the major Japanese rock icons of the last 20 years. They’re kind of a big deal.

After years of side projects, solo careers, jewelry lines and merchandising, X Japan have decided to reunite and tour the world. This Friday, they’ll be gracing the Paramount with their big big sounds and their bigger, bigger hair. There will be a lot of Asian kids screaming, a lot fire and a lot of mascara. There will also probably be synchronized dance moves done by the audience. You should practice.

Also, a band called Vampires Everywhere (seriously?) are opening. That’s cool I guess.
