Win tickets: The Torn ACLs with Caught in Motion and The Hoot Hoots at the Sunset Tavern 7/21Posted by Chris Green
SSG Music‘s Lyndsey Scully called The Torn ACLs‘ January release Make a Break, Make a Move the perfect album to sing in the shower to in her review. Listening to the Seattle band’s collection of understated pop songs, it’s hard to argue with that conclusion. Most of the tracks are catchy and bouncy, with an overall sunny feel and the use of a variety of instruments and the occasional handclap. The band is currently on a whirlwind tour of the West Coast leading up to a home-town release show at Ballard’s Sunset Tavern for their new 5-song EP, Real Risks. The CD is due for release on 7/23, but can be streamed and downloaded right now. Check out the jangly opening track, the appropriately named “Springtime”.
Making their way up from the bay area to help their friends the Torn ACLs entertain you will be Caught In Motion. This 3 person combo plays acoustic indy-pop influenced by bands such as the Fleet Foxes, Radiohead, and the Flaming Lips. Their album Stuck in the Mid-Twenties Duldrums can be sampled here.
Another reason to spend your Saturday might at the Sunset this weekend are The Hoot Hoots. This Seattle band has been together in their current form since 2008 and plays fuzzy and noisy power pop with songs about such subjects as outer space, robots, and the X-files. Live, they put on a fun show with wild energy and the occasional bizarre outfit.
