Three years ago, Conditions, the debut album by Melbourne-based band The Temper Trap, was released and quickly crept into the hearts of many with the single “Sweet Disposition”. The song was wildly popularized after appearing on the soundtrack for (500) Days of Summer, a romantic comedy that also came out the same year. Though “Sweet Disposition” itself was a magical first offering, there were many other gems to be found inside Conditions, including their other rock single “Fader” and their lively yet emotional song “Love Lost,” which is about a failing relationship. Dougy Mandagi’s voice passionately belted the lyrics to all of these songs two summers ago at The Showbox at The Market in Seattle.  The heat inside the venue at that show was not due to Seattle’s August humidity; The Temper Trap brought intensity to that show that only their live mixture of pathos and excitement could deliver.

This Monday night, The Temper Trap is back to play The Showbox at the Market again, and they’re doing so with another fantastic album under their belt. The Temper Trap’s self-titled sophomore release came out at the beginning of this month, with features new vocal stylizations from Mandagi. Singing from his diaphragm on songs like their leading “Need Your Love,” Mandagi’s voice rings fuller than previous efforts, but with the same sentimental rigor. Although this album also homes many songs of heartbreak, The Temper Trap’s expertise in synth-driven pop is only a pleasurable experience which peaks in its live performance.

Opening for the show will be San Diego band Crocodiles who specialize in noise-pop. Their lo-fi sound is brought through a combination of members from the former bands The Plot to Blow Up The Eiffel Tower and Some Girls.
