Win Tickets: Swans and Xiu Xiu at Neumos 9/7Posted by Daniel Ahrendt
Last year, Swans came to Neumos on a tour supporting their 2010 record My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky. On Friday, the great annihilator will return to the same club to annihilate us all…again? At the very least the show promises to be deafening, a sonic ball of dark matter administered via brain catheter. The Brooklyn legends are currently on tour supporting their latest album, The Seer. The two hour epic has proved to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year with coverage stretching from NPR to the Guardian UK. Frontman Michael Gira claims that the work is, “the culmination of every previous Swans album as well as any other music [he has] ever made, been involved in or imagined.” It certainly sounds like a career jewel, one with as much of a penchant for droning destruction as it has for healing craft (to read my review of the album, go here). The album was released on the 28th of August and can be ordered here.
Opening for Swans is the San Jose art-punk brain child of Jamie Stewart known as Xiu Xiu. Stewart and his bandmate Angela Seo will be on the first leg of a fall tour taking them across the U.S, over to Australia, and then all over Europe. In addition to Swans, the band will share stages with the likes of Celebration, Les Bonnes Hommes (Greg Saunier from Deerhoof), and Mister Lies.
This picture is just too good to not put everywhere.
