England has produced several fantastic artists over the years and Laura Marling is one of the youngest but also the one with the most sage wisdom in lyrics. The 22-year-old does not sing overly happy songs, instead she weaves tales of heartbreak and the coming of age. Marling’s eyes are often glazed-over as she performs as if she is having a small out-of-body experience, yet she consistently plucks every note on her classical guitar like clockwork. Her band features various instruments that complement her folk vocals with the high pitch notes of the ukulele and mandolin, the tribal drumbeats and the subtle cymbal crashes. Marling has been in several well-known UK bands early on including the original lineup of Noah & The Whale, lending her vocals to their hit “5 Years Time.” The folk-centric singer/songwriter bounces between somber tunes like “Night After Night” to a slightly upbeat Celtic “All My Rage”, both of which are featured on her latest album A Creature I Don’t Know.
