Grimes is the champion and queen of this world of over-connectedness, mixing all forms of media to create her whole because with Grimes it’s not just the songs – it’s the music videos, artwork, interviews and live performance that all coalesce together. From the sultry moods of 90’s R&B to the acute precision of K-Pop beats she mixes and melds influences as fast and effortless as kids on their iPhones change browsers.
Grimes’ genesis from timid maven of bedroom electronica to confident headliner of some of the world’s largest festivals left fans and critics agape in wonder. Though she’s been releasing albums since 2010 this metamorphosis only started at the break of 2012 when multiple publications were hailing her album Visions as one of the most original and addictive albums to come out.
In the past year Grimes has played Seattle four times. Her first appearances were as main support for the likes of Lykki Li and Austra which garnered her enough attention to play to a sold out crowd of 150-200 at the Sunset this past February. From there she only continued to sky rocket playing what we called the best show of her career at Capitol Hill Block Party. Now she’ll be playing to a sold out crowd at Neumos this upcoming Tuesday.
The momentum building behind Grimes is accelerating at unparalleled speeds so to see her headlining Neumos, a still relatively intimate venue, will be an aural and optical treat. Her darkly seductive songs booming with energy and fantastical lyrics will entrap you in a manic trance and keep you begging for more.
Main support and Grimes’ Tumblr brothers, Elite Gymnastics are bringing their swirling synth beats and post-rave electronics to make sure the hips start to sway early in the evening.
Opening up the evening is Vancouver’s Myths. With their abrasive lyrical delivery and cold stark atmospheres they create with glitchy drum machines and synths, Myths will hold your hands and shake you down into the abyss you’ll be trapped in for the rest of the evening.
