Portland’s folk-doom grave crawlers Agalloch mark seventeen years of existence this year and on Thursday will turn The Crocodile into a righteous dirge hall. Their new EP Faustian Echos (released on their own label Dammerung Arts) is their newest recording since the 2010 LP Marrow of the Spirit, which marked a return to the bands original, unpolished method of recording. Such decisions bring out the base beauty of what Agalloch has come to be over the years, lending their use of NW metal atmospheric expanse very apt primeval placement. Their musical presence owes just as much to Ingmar Bergman as it does to Ulver, resulting in a sonically cinematic experience to accompany the unforgiving elements of nature. This show will be the second stop on a month long summer tour taking them from Portland down to San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall on August 11th. Check out the full listing of dates below. Joining them at the Crocodile will be Taurus featuring Stevie Floyd of Dark Castle and Ashley Spungin of Purple Rhinestone Eagle as well as Portland’s Eight Bells.
