If you missed Whitney Ballen when she opened for James Apollo on July 27th you can redeem yourself by going to her show on Sunday. If you aren’t in the know about Whitney Ballen and the Intimates here are the deets (and some excessive alliteration): Whitney is a singer songwriter from Seattle specializing in sweet sounds and soulful melodies. Ballen has carved out a niche on the local scene with a voice that is often described as stunning. Ballen ‘s sound will be filled out by the luscious sounds and musical stylings of the Intimates and her performance should not be missed.
“Once upon a time, there were two shot glasses, on one was etched an elk, on the other, a boar.” This is the fairytale genesis of Tacoma’s soulful duo Elk and Boar. Kristen Wenlock (Elk) and Travis Barker (Boar) have teamed up to bring powerful songwriting delicately wrapped in a beautiful balance of emotive vocals to the lucky ears of the Pacific Northwest.
Five people with one purpose — to make really great, really intelligent pop. Parlour hails from the middle of the country, Des Moines, Iowa to be exact. It is there, surrounded by the vast expanse of corn, that this five-piece pop rock band sharpened their musical chops. They have crafted a collection of songs woven with folk sentiments that will pluck at your heart strings. Parlour’s music displays a wide range of instrumentations, often flirting between stripped down acoustic numbers and intricate guitar laced with synth and bells.
