Weekend Selection #22

Colette Pomerleau / July 13, 2018

This weekend selection marks the beginning of our new era: the new moon, reinventing how “bad luck” is supposed to feel, taking bold steps to making ourselves vulnerable and finding the perfect soundtrack to it all.

What we have here is a diverse collection, touching on all aforementioned aspects. Read and listen on below.

“Bounders” is the latest offering from Denver-based quartet Flaural. Psych-pop meets shoegaze in interesting, complicated ways with this crystallized jam.

For fans of: Wild Nothing, Gardens & Villa, Quilt

Let us know if you find yourself playing “Hey Kids” only once, because we’ve had it on repeat since we discovered Molina. Retro-shimmery pop melodies eventually expand and evolve, leaving you to discover something new for each revolution.

For fans of: Melody’s Echo Chamber, Mr Twin Sister, Infinite Bisous

Swedish pop act Melby drop their energetic single “Reject”, where spacious vocals gracefully float over a thriving bass line.

For fans of: Chairlift, School of Seven Bells, SALES

Smooth jazzers Coral Pink gives a distinct reprieve from the lo-fi indie we’ve been used to hearing with “Another Year”.

For fans of: Mild High Club, Homeshake, Gus Dapperton

Zoned out summer hits are made into something you’re destined to become obsessed with when it involves Stevie Zita’s “On My Mind”.

For fans of: Lilacs & Champagne, Mac DeMarco, Grails

Brooklynites Lazyeyes drop the effortlessly catchy post punk wonder, “Echos”.

For fans of: Omni, Preoccupations, DIIV

Toronto babes Favours merge their own versions of dark synth with British new wave with the catchy single “In The Night”.

For fans of: Drab Majesty, Black Marble, Trust

The moody and dramatic single “Time” is the latest from New York-based MOTHERMARY and a commentary on the twins’ experience in leaving the Mormon church.

For fans of: Rhye, Poliça, Perfume Genius

We have no idea where Steven A. Clark came from but “Feel This Way” is one of the catchiest, mood-lifting dance numbers we’ve come across in a good while.

For fans of: How to Dress Well, Shy Girls, JMSN

Young Lebanon-born, LA-based singer/songwriter Tyro shares “Together”, a single best kept to yourself or with lovers due to its sensual vibes.

For fans of: Trey Songz, James Blake, The Weeknd

Young producer sonn just released his slow-burning R&B gem “Mercy”, featuring Swedish-Iranian vocalist Ayelle.

For fans of: Kelela, Tei Shei, Jessy Lanza
