The Cribs have released a new video for “Glitters Like Gold”.

The new video is titled “Pop Up Video” on their YouTube channel but is for their song “Glitters Like Gold”. The modified title fits quite well, since the entire video features pop up tidbits similar to VH1‘s Pop Up Video. Each pop up is clickable and takes you to another video by the band, varying from Gary silently walking for 14 minutes, to Ross making a sandwich.

The main video features several random home videos the band made specifically for “Glitters Like Gold”. Mundane tasks like taking a walk are glorified by simply being turned into a pop up factoid about The Cribs and its members. The video really showcases the band’s true talent and skills such as being able to land a strike in bowling and then loop the same scene over for two hours. And then again it also spotlights their lack of talent, such as rowing a boat.

The “Glitters Like Gold” video is a fantastic marketing strategy as well as a catchy song. The song itself has a shoegaze vibe to it that invokes fantasies of a day at the ocean and puttering down the boardwalk on rollerblades. The music video channels the 1980′s with aesthetics similar to early music videos you would see on early MTV, and even includes a parody of a scene from Queen‘s “Bohemian Rhapsody” video.

“Glitters Like Gold” is off The Cribs’ recently released album, In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull.
