Brooklyn’s Chappo channels Kenny Rogers for a bizarre, soulful cover of the classic country-funk ballad “Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In).” The four-piece psychedelic rock group pairs their cover with footage from the immensely bizarre French cut-motion animated film, The Fantastic Planet (La Planète sauvage).
The visuals complement Chappo’s interpretation with all the warmth of a scene out of a Salvador Dali nightmare. You cannot witness a more unexpected pairing that works so inexplicably well together. “Just Dropped In” is one of four covers along with the songs of Beck, Cavemen, and Jefferson Airplane from the band’s Nothing To Sell Ya EP. Additionally, they have released a sole studio album, Moonwater, and four other EPs.
Chappo is vocalist/multi-instrumentalists Alex Chappo and Chris Olson Chappo, along with drummer Zac Colwell and guitarist Dave Feddock. Two of the members were based out of Port Orchard, WA, a small ferry ride from Seattle.
