Beyonce celebrated World Humanitarian Day at the UN General Assembly in NYC by singing a rendition of her single, “I Was Here”.

The song, celebrating the message of 2012′s World Humanitarian Day of doing something good, somewhere, for everyone else, was set to the backdrop of an IMAX video.   The tear-jerking video highlighted the compassion of seemingly small and random acts of kindness having an enormous impact on society as a whole.

Beyonce sums it all up in the lyrics: if you want to live each day touching the lives of others, all you have to do is reach out, no matter how small the apparent result.  Eventually, that result will spread its seed and populate an entire society.

I want to say I lived each day,
Until I die
And know that I meant something in somebody’s life
The hearts I have touched,
Will be the proof that I leave
That I made a difference
And this world will see

I was here…
I lived, I loved
I was here…
I did, I’ve done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know
