Stream: Valentine’s Day Album Releases feat. Tennis, Sick Friend, Islands, and more!

Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year which is a typical day when new album releases are scheduled. Here are a few of our picks and a list of other releases that you can pick up today!

Tennis - Young & Old

The huge success of Tennis’ debut album Cape Dory is hard to follow up on; however, their sophomore album Young & Old is prepared for the challenge. Their debut album was more of a memoir for lead singer Alaina Moore and her husband guitarist Patrick Riley about their sailing adventure on the East Coast, whereas Young & Old has more variety in lyrics and style. The album features several catchy pop tunes that are a mix of surf and dream pop.

Sick Friend – The Draft Dodger

Montreal-based Sick Friend is a duo that creates pop music that isn’t just pop music. The duo consists of Michael O’Brien (vocals, guitar) and Geordie Kingsbury (drums, synth) who blend pop and electronica that balance into a mix of Modest Mouse meets Mother Mother. “Cottages” is an intriguing single that really brings out the Modest Mouse comparison with the screeching vocals and backing chorus. The Draft Dodger features a retro vibe paired with O’Brien’s mature vocals that make for a fresh breathe of air into the over-blipped out modern pop music.

Islands - A Sleep & A Forgetting

Islands’ latest release A Sleep & A Forgetting features songs about heartbreak and moving on, some songs are slow and cry-worthy while others are more anthemic and get the listener moving. The first single “This Is Not A Song” is a gut-wrenching song about not quite being over your lost love and Islands really drives home the emotion in their vocals. There’s a multitude of keys, bass, and guitars in the album and songs like “Never Go Solo” really turn up the volume and talent.
