Great things find their genesis in junk shops, right? They certainly do when said junk shop is in London and the seekers are Esau Mwamwaya and Johan Hugo. That is exactly how The Very Best got their start. The 2008 purchase of a bicycle in an East London junk shop created the spark that would evolve into a collaboration of beats and vocals all slurried together into danceable world pop. You can check out The Very Best Wednesday at the Crocodile where they will be leading an aural tour using sounds from around the globe and layered with the songsmith talents of Esau.
The evenings sounds will draw from the band’s latest release, a mixed tape that has been described as “a milestone release within itself as it’s the birth of a great partnership allowing a Pop platform for traditional African Harmonies and Hymns. It also acts as a taster for the debut album which will feature the likes of Vampire Weekend, M.I.A. and Marina Vello (formerly of Brazilian three-piece Bonde Role).”
