Metronomy are a fantastic alternative electro-pop group from Devon, England. The band has existed since its creation by front man Joseph Mount in 1999. Since then there have member replacements and additions, leaving the band as a four piece today. Metronomy has released 3 albums since 2005, and have also produced a long list of remixes including the works of Gorillaz, Kate Nash, Lady Gaga, and Lykke Li. The band visits Seattle this fall to promote their latest album, The English Riviera, which has been nominated for 2011’s Mercury Prize for Best Album. Regarding the inspiration for this album, Mount has said, “I just fantasized that this area was a cutting edge place of music and youth culture, which it isn’t at all,” he further explained, “Imagining that this part of England creates a specific kind of music – the ‘Devon Sound’ – similar to West Coast studio music of the 1970s. If you went there and you had the geographical landscape in mind you’d end up making quite reflective, introspective music. This was just me writing a fantasy about Devon being this cool place like Portland, Oregon, so saying ‘I’m from the English Riviera’ to the music press would get you a few column inches”. Well, Mount’s dream inspiration worked – everyone seems to enjoy the memorable and addictive album that is The English Riviera.

Previously Metronomy has toured with such acts as Bloc Party, CSS, Klaxons, and Justice. Their live set is said to have a mixture of dance routines and light shows (most times with push lights attached the band members’ chests) – which only compliment the wonder that are Metronomy’s catchy beats. Cymbals Eat Guitars are an experimental pop band from Staten Island that debuted in 2009 with their release Why There Are Mountains. Members came and went during the early stages, but in 2011 the band was stable enough after touring extensively to enjoy the freedom of writing exclusively and focusing on their sound. Their second album, Lenses Alien, was produced by John Agnello, and is a confident second offering that utilizes these explorative collaborations. The album is a mixture of murky psychedelics and classical pop formations which combined marry artistically.  Being relatively new in the music scene, the band has shared that stage with an impressive list, including Bear in Heaven, Los Campesinos!,The Thermals, The Hold Steady and The Flaming Lips. Come see this expressive band on Tuesday at The Crocodile!
