New Orleans Rapper Curren$y seems to be one of those rappers who benefits as much from his producers as his lyrical prowess. But if you sleep on the former No Limit (Master P) and Young Money (Lil Wayne) star, prepare to have circles run round your head. In the last three years the “Jet Life” endorsing MC has forced his way into the mainstream from the world of the underrated, leaving in his wake a trail of weed smoke and mixtapes.
After releasing the critically acclaimed Pilot Talk and Pilot Talk II (featuring all-class producer DJ Ski) on former Roc-a-Fella exec Damon Dash’s imprint, Curren$y split from the label and signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records for his own imprint, Jet Life Recordings. He quickly signed many of his friends and co-stars from previous mixtapes, including tour mates Smoke DZA, Fiend, Corner Boy P, Trademark and Young Roddy.
Curren$y’s label mates describe “the Jet Life” as “Just Enjoy This Sh**,” taking off smoothly and reaching the top. Starting the imprint is just the first step, and this tour is the next. If Curren$y continues to hustle as hard as he has, the sky is the limit for the empowered young rapper.
