Charli XCX @ Chop Suey | 8/14 | 8PM | $10 (Get Tickets) | All Ages (Bar w/ ID)

The UK has a long history of producing pop starlets with a keen grasp of modern sounds and production trends. Singers like Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and Girls Aloud alum Nicola Roberts have an uncannily solid track record of releasing forward thinking singles, creating pop music both instantly accessible and critically acclaimed at the same time.  Charlotte Aitchison, also known as Charli XCX, is the latest to take up the mantle, and might be the most interesting of them all.

Charli XCX has been killing it with her specific brand of dark, icy electro-pop. She’s been remixed by some of the most interesting talent in the world, from texture producer Balam Acab to Odd Future production team The Internet. Singles like “Stay Away” and “Nuclear Seasons” have been heralded on both sides of the Atlantic, but it’s her latest single that just might break her big time.

“You’re The One” soaks up the moonlight with an absolutely gargantuan beat and a chorus that pierces like sunlight through the clouds. Charli XCX exhibits a reckless yet honest intelligence through her performance of this song, separating her from the rest.

Check her out at Chop Suey, before she blows up all huge and starts playing WaMu Theater. It’s a bargain.
