Within the realm of post-rock, bands pop up and fade faster than daisies at a graveyard and it takes a lot break free from the shackles of mediocrity that confine the genre – Austin band Balmorhea broke free. Not seeing a need to hide behind walls of distortion like so many of their kin, Balmorhea attack with lush, dizzying string arrangements and bass lines so deep and organic they could shift the tectonic plates. They’re bringing their escapist sounds to the Columbia City Theater tonight in Seattle in celebration of their brand new album Stranger.
