PAX CONVENTION PARTY W/ The Keeper, Man Rockwell, Fuzed, Tubes | The Comet Tavern | 09/02 | 9pm | $6

“Tell my horse I love her because tonight we ride”

The PAX Convention is in town and at least one aspect of the fallout is the pre-PAX Convention Party tonight at The Comet. Northwestern Dungeons and Dragons menstrual metal masters The Keeper will be keeping it nerdy but heavy, representing what could be a musical counterpart to the comedy of Brian Posehn. In fact, I vote they tour together.

They may have been on the dweeby side in high-school but The Keeper will rock with abandon tonight. Also, “Sharpen the Axes” is a killer song.

Furniture Girls, the Beats, Man, Surrealized, DJ Kippy | The Crocodile Cafe | 09/02 |7pm | $8

One of Seattle’s most eclectic bands, Furniture Girls will be celebrating the release of their CD, How I Learned to Crawl, tonight at The Crocodile. Go celebrate with them. The fantastically tattooed stayC and friends’ mix of electronic, indie, and industrial rock will blow the roof off Scott Pilgrim style. Furniture Girls only has one female in the band. The dudes in the band have crazy musical chops (and have done session work for many a band)  and they bring the best out in their fabulously quirky female vocalist, a beloved veteran of Seattle’s alternative music scene.

If tonight you want to go out and see a band that isn’t afraid to be weird and unique while dropping all pretensions of indie rock hipsterism, Furniture Girls is your best bet.
