Foxtail Somersault @ The Black Lodge | 07/30 | 9pm | ????

San Francisco based Foxtail Somersault play good, chill music.  Their songs are multi-layered and cinematic, with soft doses of percussion and beautifully airy vocals;  it is reminiscent of an analog Massive Attack.  If you are in the mood for a mellow Friday night, this could be the spot for you.  Plus, Black Lodge is a great DIY venue, and seeing a show there is a great way to support independent musicians, and the music scene as a whole.

Massey Furguson @ Tractor Tavern | 07/30 | 9 pm | $15

Seattle has it’s fair share of alt country, roots rockers.  Someone even went so far a while back to have said that Seattle was stealing country from Nashville.  Now that is clearly not true, and actually a bit disrespectful.  Most Seattle musicians wouldn’t want any comparison between the alt country scene here in Seattle and what goes on in Nashville.  Bands like Massey Furguson certainly wouldn’t.  They take their cues from the dirty southern rockers, not pop stars in cowboy boots.  Rocksteady beats, twangy guitars, and grit are all you really need for this genre, and Massey Furguson has all of that to spare.  It’s gonna be a rowdy rockin time down in Ballard tonight.  Bring your drinking shoes.

The Young Evils @ The High Dive | 07/30 | 9 pm | $7

The Young Evils are a mishmash of super-poppy goodness.  There’s some 60′s downstrokey beach pop in there.  Some modern Seattle post folk pop in there.  And basically everything in between.  It’s actually hard to believe how much pop lives in these songs.  It’s all well produced and put together, with good musicianship and well written songs.  Basically, if you are one of those people whose dirty little musical secret is that you love poppy songs that will make you smile and sway your head back and forth, as long as no one finds out, then you will probably love The Young Evils.  If you are too cool to like this kind of music, just buy it on iTunes and listen to it in your basement.  We won’t tell anyone.
