Tonight in Music: Bear Hands, Delorean, The Fresh & Onlys, and more
Posted by Suzi PrattSSG reviewers will be at various shows all over Seattle tonight, and the three below are just naming a few. See what tickles your fancy, then come on out and say hi!
Bear Hands @ Sunset Tavern | 4/13 | 9PM | $8
After playing at SXSW and touring with Passion Pit, New York post-punk band Bear Hands is making a pit stop in Seattle before heading down to Coachella, and then kicking off another round of tours, this time with As Tall As Lions. The group of four is very punk rock in appearance and plays their percussive-driven music with a deep ferocity. Plucking guitars and smashing cymbals and tambourines are the predominate sounds of Bear Hands, whose music is influenced by a number of genres. If post-punk is your genre, don’t miss these Brooklyners while they’re in town!
Delorean @ The Vera Project | 4/13 | 7:30PM doors | $11 Purchase Tickets HERE
Don’t mistake Delorean for having any association with time travel, other than the idea that their European synth-pop may sound slightly futuristic. This four-piece band originally formed in the Basque region of Spain is known for atmospheric electronic music with airy vocals, ideal for dancing the night away into the wee hours of the morning. Their live show is best summarized by Justin Timberlake, who described the experience as such: “Think of the musical equivalent of a wild euphoric night in Barcelona, after which you wake up with the beats echoing in your head like distant cannon fire.” Delorean has been on tour with Miike Snow, but will be making a special appearance with We Are Wolves and Parlovr at The Vera Project tonight. Sample some of Delorean’s music, and come check them out their show.
The Fresh & Onlys @ Neumos | 4/13 | 8PM doors | $15 in adv | 21+
The Fresh & Onlys are one of many indie bands to come out of San Francisco, but one of the things that makes this band unique is the vintage, psychedelic vibe exuded by their otherwise garage rock music. The band consists of seasoned musicians including leader Tim Cohen formerly of Black Fiction, and Shayde Sartin and Wymond Miles, both of the Skygreen Leopards. Together, The Fresh & Onlys establish the aforementioned sound reminiscent of hippie days, while managing to maintain a sense of fun and reality in their down-to-earth lyrics. The Fresh & Onlys will be opening for King Khan & The Shrines at Neumos tonight, so be sure to get there early! Also, they will be playing a free in-store session at Sonic Boom in Ballard at 5:30PM.
