Brush off all the excess warm happy feelings you’ve gathered over the holiday weekend and find a way to The Funhouse tonight. Ancient Warlocks are worth checking out. A band that only played their first show last month, it appears that Ancient Warlocks have got the stoner rock formula down to a science. Drawn out mid tempo arrangements and a heavy low end are common throughout. Those who respect crunchy/retro guitar tone will feel right at home with Ancient Warlocks. On the opposite end of the bill are Serial Hawk, another relatively new outfit. The thing that really sticks with Serial Hawk is their no BS type of demeanor. Off the cuff riffs with an approach that resembles some of the early Sabbath records. No frills, just loud sludgy rock music. Impressive to say the least. What more could you ask for?

The Scene Aesthetic are an ideal portrait of a Myspace band. Take it as a compliment. A couple of guys release some acoustic pop songs on Myspace, gain popularity, go on tour with other popular Myspace bands to gain more popularity, and occasionally release albums. It’s a winning formula and a smart marketing strategy. As for the music… it sells itself. Songs with melodies delivered by some smart albeit personable songwriters. The whole thing is very cutesy and wholesome. The dudes can sing well and tonight’s show will probably come close to, if not entirely sell out. It’s not really my type of thing so to say, but it works from a business standpoint and the fans love it. Cheers for diversity.
