The Shins to Release New Album on Valentines Day

Posted by on February 9th, 2012 at 4:02 PM

The Shins are back, hell bent on kicking eardrums instead of lengthy appendages, with the announcement of their most recent album; Port of Morrow. The Albuquerque spawned indie-rock group – comprised of vocalist James Mercer and his momentary-musical-plus-one – will fill this upcoming Valentines Day with whimsical singles like “September,” and the recently January 9th debuted, “Simple Song.”

With acoustic shows – such as Mercer’s solo-performance for San Diego’s 91X – the Shins are tantalizing melodic tastebuds with snippets of their 2012 album, released through Mercer’s own label, Aural Apothecary; a facet of Columbia Records. If your current location is filled with Seattle showers instead of San Diego sun rays, have no fear: a video of such a performance can be enjoyed below. Keep an eye out for their most recently debuted single, “It’s Only Life,” at the four minute mark.

So if overpriced chocolates and quickly-dying flowers won’t do the trick this February 14th, scoot down to your local record store. Your lover, and eardrums, will thank you.

  1. Isn’t this album scheduled to be released on the 20th of march?

  2. That was the release date previously established by the band back in December, according to their official Facebook page. However, obviously, that date has been moved up.

My personal belief as to why? The Shins realize that chocolates and pretty flowers can only do so much. Music is the most successful way to bed your valentine.
