The Mountain Goats have confirmed March 29th as the release date of their latest album All Eternals Deck, which will be their debut on Merge records. Front man John Darnielle has described the new album as “a 70’s occult-scare movie where one of the scenes involves a few people visiting a storefront fortune teller, getting their cards read, and then trying to feel super-hopeful about their predicted outcome when what they’re visibly actually feeling is dread, then you have a pretty decent idea of what the album is all about.” If that hasn’t got your blood rushing yet, one of the producers of the new album is almighty Erik Rutan, former guitarist of Morbid Angel and current front man of Hate Eternal who was also one of the producers for their 2009 album The Life of the World to Come. GQ commented, “[Darnielle’s] not just one of the greatest songwriters working today–he’s probably one of the greatest working writers.” and prompted Stephen Colbert to invite the band to make it’s national television debut on The Colbert Report.

So to sum it all up, the new Mountain Goats record is going to be like a Roman Polanski film with one of the most talented musicians in death metal producing it along with John Congleton, Brandon Eggleston and Scott Solter. This is going to be dark.

More details about All Eternals Deck will be announced soon.
