By playing eight shows in the span of 24 hours, Oklahoma’s The Flaming Lips have broken the world record for most live shows played in a day.
The band performed these shows as part of MTV’s O Music Awards. Beginning in Memphis, Tennessee, and finishing in New Orleans, Louisiana, Wayne Coyne and co outdid rapper Jay-Z’s record of seven shows in 2006.
With 20 minutes to spare before the day is over, Coyne stated: “At five this morning you thought you were going to crawl in, barely be able to sing and hope you can just survive it. But as the day went, everywhere we would go they’d give us energy – now I feel I could go another 24 hours.”
Check the band’s latest LP, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, released on June 26.
