Preview by Julie Cochran:

In support of the release of a split 7” with the band BlackQueen, trio the Family Curse stop in Seattle August 31. A fusion between the psychedelia of Butthole Surfers and the industrial gloom of the Big Black, the Family Curse take art rock to a whole new level. Formed in San Francisco in 2004, the band relocated to Seattle in 2008 just after the release of their second album, Spice Rack. Guitarists Marc Tweed (also an artist and author) and Jeff Doom blast white noise wails to accompany the vocals of singer Megan Tweed who shrieks her way through tracks, drumming up the same maniacal energy as Fever to Tell-era Karen O.

Hailing from San Diego, Tristan Shone is industrial gloom metal act Author & Punisher. Performing as a one-man band, Shone handles custom fabricators & machines to produce automated mechanical drone metal. Shone has taken his post-apocalyptic sound all over the United States and around the world, all the while somehow holding down multiple jobs as a mechanical engineer. Author & Punisher’s most recent album, Ursus Americanus (Seventh Rule Recordings), primarily features dub machines. Opening the evening’s entertainment are Red Liquid and Blowupnihlist. If industrial gloom metal tickles your fancy, don’t miss this show!
