Pete “Sonic Boom” Kember and Spectrum may not be household names, but take a closer look at the album credits for Panda Bear’s Tomboy or MGMT’s Congratulations— you’ll discover someone who carries clout among the recording artists of the new decade. Spectrum play galactic psychedelia of the highest order. If the golden 12” sent into space on the Voyager space mission had the Jesus and Mary Chain and Spiritualized on it, along with a bunch of tape delay and feedback, and you’d get a close approximation of Spectrum’s music. Local instrumental virtuosos Kinski just started recording their newest record three weeks ago, the follow up to 2007’s Down Below It’s Chaos, and will be opening the show at the Chop Suey.
