"I don't wanna be a cheerleader no more."

St. Vincent played the Bigfoot stage just after tUnE-yArDs, a fitting pairing since they’ve recently been paired up for other things, including an on-camera conversation where they girl power it up.

St. Vincent’s Annie Clarke is interesting in the context of the conversation of girl power. She has the looks of a delicate porcelain doll, and an underlying presence of softness and gentility. That being said, she appears to be trying to brand herself as a take no crap, lay-it-all-out-there frontwoman who can hold her own in any arena. She has the skill, vision and original point of view to back it up, despite a gruff persona that is often at odds with her presence as an artist.

Back to her show, she was fantastic. You could tell she gave it her all, singing so hard you could see the veins popping out of her neck and forehead. She has a fascination with math-rock/challenging timing that translates well in her music. Often times she’ll have lyrical hooks that are out of sync with the music but resolve themselves the third of fourth time through. That added a little intrigue to her performance.

Unfortunately I could only catch a couple songs, but St. Vincent was extremely rad. She played “Cheerleader” second. Watch the video for that and check out a few photos below.

You shouldn’t have written this article having not seen the whole show. The end is what people are talking about.
