Roxy Music frontman announces new album, joined by Brian Eno, Flea, Jonny Greenwood, and others

Bryan Ferry, lead singer of classic glam rockers Roxy Music, has announced he will be releasing his latest solo album on Virgin Records on October 25th, available as CD, CD+DVD, Box Set, and on vinyl.   Entitled Olympia, the album is notable for the astonishing number of excellent guest musicians, most importantly his Roxy Music band-mates Andy Mackay, Phil Manzanera, and the legendary producer Brian Eno.  Though Ferry has collaborated with each of them in the past, this is the first time the four have worked on the same record since 1973′s For Your Pleasure.  Eno departed the band shortly after the release of that album due to conflicts with Ferry.  He released his debut solo album Here Come the Warm Jets in January of 1974, and coined and defined the term ambient music with his classic Ambient 1: Music for Airports in 1978. Outside of music theory nerds and ambient fans, he is perhaps best known as producers of acts as varied as the Talking Heads, Coldplay, and U2.   No mention has been made of drummer Paul Thompson, who took part in the 2001 Roxy Music  reunion and played on 2002′s Frantic,  Ferry’s last album of original material.  However, Thompson declined to participate in the 2006 Roxy Music tour due to health concerns, so if is safe to assume that he sat this one out for similar reasons.

Other notable guest musicians include Radiohead‘s Jonny Greenwood, Red Hot Chili Pepper‘s Flea, Chic frontman Nile Rodgers, Scissor Sisters, Groove Armada, Pink Floyd‘s David Gilmour, and Primal Scream’s Mani. (That’s a whole lot of bold.)

The lead  single “You Can Dance” is already a club hit in Europe, and will be available for purchase in the US on August 9th.  The complete track listing is below, including Tim Buckley’s  “Song to the Siren” and Traffic’s “No Face, No Name, No Number.”   For more information and to pre-order Olympia, visit Bryan Ferry’s site here.  The cover art hasn’t been revealed yet, but hopefully it will be better than super-group Sweet Apple‘s Roxy tribute from earlier this year.
