Red Hot and Blue Rockabilly Weekend 7: Miss Scarlett James, Buzz Campbell, Levi Dexter @ Lion D’or
Posted by Luca FantigrossiThe 7th annual Red Hot and Blue Rockabilly Weekend opens Thursday, September 1st at Lion D’or (1676 Ontario street east, corner of Papineau). The night doesn’t only boast music, but will also have a Marina Vintage Style Fashion Show, some burlesque entertainment with Miss Scarlett James, as well as vendors selling crafts and various other things throughout the weekend. Getting to the music though, day one of the festival will feature two bands from the US and the UK, led by Buzz Campbell and Levi Dexter.
The Buzz Campbell trio have quite a remarkable musical resume between the three of them. Buzz has played with Shanana and Stray Cat Lee Rocker. Bass player Jonny Bowler has played with the legendary Wanda Jackson among others and drummer Stinky has worked with Bo Diddley, Lee Rocker, and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins to name a few. With such an impressive background they are sure to be topnotch rock n rollers.
Levi Dexter has an equally impressive biography. If you click more on the general info tab on myspace, his bio reads like a novel. He is known as one of the first neo-rockabilly acts appearing out of the UK in the 1970s. His initial band Levi and the Rockats played with Siouxie and the Banshees, Adam and the Ants, The Meteors and The Cramps. He has worked with Brian Setzer, and Richard Gottehrer among others. Dexter has been keeping rockabilly alive for the past four decades and will no doubt rock the room all night long. So get ready for a fun filled night on day one of this year’s Red Hot and Blue Rockabilly Weekend.
