Russian courts have determined that anti-Putin punk band, Pussy Riot, who were arrested in March, will stay in prison until late July while their case is investigated.
In February of this year, Pussy Riot played an impromptu protest show at the Orthodox Cathedral in Moscow. They were protesting the relationship between the church and Vladimir Putin.
Three members, Maria Alyokhina, Yekaterina Samutsevich and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, were arrested in March on charges of “hooliganism.”
Union of Solidarity with Political Prisoners consider them political prisoners, while Amnesty International regards them as prisoners of conscience.
The band’s defense lawyers have filed an appeal contesting the detention on their behalf.
If convicted, the band face seven years in prison.
