Preview: Pitchfork Music Festival Day 3 – Vampire Weekend, Beach House, AraabMuzik, Kendrick Lamar, Real Estate, and many more at Chicago’s Union Park 7/15!Posted by Kevin Kloecker
Next weekend Pitchfork will be holding its annual music festival filled with a number of great acts. Sunday will mark the final day of the festival, and after a long weekend filled with an impressive lineup, the last bands scheduled do not disappoint. Sunday’s acts include Vampire Weekend, Beach House, AraabMuzik, Kendrick Lamar, Real Estate, and many more. If you’re going be sure and try to make it for this final night, you won’t regret it.
Here are some SSG suggestions for Sunday July 15th:
Vampire Weekend has been consistent in their ability to please our ears album after album. Performing a couple years ago at Pitchfork they are back now, as headliners, and it is clearly by popular demand. With their latest album Contra being acclaimed by essentially everyone and some new material on the way this should be a fun and exciting show for longtime fans and new listeners.
Beach House is a band that brings their sound to the stage with such perfection it is hard to believe. That’s why you have to see them at PItchfork Music Festival next Sunday, or see them live, anytime you can. The dreamy vocals and carefully orchestrated sounds from the band are almost as fun to watch as they are to hear. With their latest album Bloom receiving great reviews, Beach House will be one of the best performances of the weekend.
AraabMuzik is a musical athlete. His set switches between the fans dancing their asses off and being blown away by the sheer entertainment value of this mans work with an MPC. Abraham Orellana has been releasing his beats since 2006 and probably practicing making them even longer, which is why his set shows that skill. Check out AraabMuzik making a beat live in front of the camera below.
Kendrick Lamar out of Compton has been heralded by many in the new generation of hip hop. He has been ushered into the scene by greats, and with good reason. His flow and original sound has helped set him aside from his contemporaries as a powerhouse of creativity, with more potential than his fellow rappers.
Real Estate have brought us a stylized nostalgic rock that has stuck with us every time we hear it. Whether you’re listening to their music on the beach or in your car, the sounds time and again bring back memories. For some reason their songs just grab our inner child in a way that only old super 8 home videos can do. Their set is earlier in the day but if you’re looking for a relaxing show to take a break from all the chaos of a music festival in the city, stop over and watch Real Estate, they won’t let you down.
