Jens Lekman and Taken By Trees 11/1 at The Neptune Theatre

The Swedish Jens Lekman croons like Morrissey with the poppy twist of Belle and Sebastian, but has a unique sound all his own. At his fourth studio release I Know What Love Isn’t, Lekman takes a more serious approach to his hopeless romantic side. His previous albums showed that he was sensitive but had a good sense of humor and took emotions with a grain of salt. I Know What Love Isn’t breaks down a barrier and we see a mature, less comedic and maybe even jaded Jens Lekman.
He is sure to charm and entertain this Thursday, always sharing a new story, delivered in his awkward yet humorous deadpan.
Taken By Trees is the solo project of Victoria Bergsman. The Swede is a pop act with folk and worldly sensibilities. Bergsman’s October release, Other Worlds was inspired by her Hawaiian sabbatical. Other Worlds sounds like an beach vacation, not so tropical, but very relaxed with a little bit of bass beats. Her voice is almost a whisper but is enthralling and easy to listen to.
This pairing is bound to be a wonderful showcase of Eastern-European indie-pop at it’s best.
