DJ Z-Trip with Kid Koala @ Showbox at the Market 12/10 | 9pm | $20

DJ Z-Trip is the “godfather of mash-ups” who got crowds hopping to his classic rock/hip-hop remixes long before Girl Talk became famous. Zach Sciacca is an LA-based DJ whose fame took off in 2002 with the debut of his mash-up CD mix “Uneasy Listening Vol. 1,” which got audiences reeling. Today, collaborations across musical genres are more commonplace—the 2004 Linkin Park/Jay-Z mash-up album “Collision Course” is a personal favorite. Back in the early days of the new millennium, DJ Z-Trip’s mashup-album was nothing short of revolutionary. Before then, no one thought that classic artists like Phil Collins could achieve renewed fame by simply adding a backbeat to their songs.
DJ Z-Trip has a talent of employing sharp sampling and smooth scratching to bring out the big beats of old-school party jams and pop/rock hits, resulting in the successful marriage of genres that otherwise would never flow together. He has produced collaborative efforts with tons of big-name musicians including Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Chuck D of Public Enemy, and Soup from Jurassic 5, just to name a few. Just as his albums have been well-received, DJ Z-Trip’s live performances get rave reviews. If you’ve ever been to the crazy, fun-filled dance party known as a Girl Talk concert, then you’re in for a similar treat if you see DJ Z-Trip live.
This mash-up legend will be at the Showbox at the Market on Thursday night with another well-known DJ/turntablist, Kid Koala. Come party, and bring your dancing shoes. It might be freezing outside, but these two are going to turn the heat up! Buy your tickets online HERE.
