The notorious veteran noise quartet from San Francisco, Deerhoof, will be at The Vera Project Friday touring with their newest album Breakup Song. The unpredictability and improvisation that Satomi Matsuzaki, John Dieterich, Ed Rodriguez and Greg Saunier bring to their live shows adds and exciting element to their live performances. Deerhoof’s cutesy vocals, dancey pop beats, random time signatures and experimental chaos makes the band hard to pin to any specific genre, making them a unique and perplexing act. The band has been together for 18 years, releasing 12 full length albums. Hear the September 4 release in it’s entirety below, accompanied by a short film walking a city at night from the perspective of a floating balloon, conceptualized, shot by and starring Matsuzaki and Saunier.

Opening for Deerhoof is Buke and Gase and Raleigh Moncrief. Buke and Gase is an experimental indie duo comprised of Arone Dyer and Aron Sanchez who make and play original instruments, giving them their namesake. The “buke” is a baritone ukulele and a “gase” is a 6 string guitar and bass in one, with four guitar strings and two bass strings. Raleigh Moncrief is a producer, engineer and electronic musician, who co-produced The Dirty Projectors Bitte Orca.
