It’s nearly Labor Day weekend and we couldn’t be more excited about spending it in our favorite Seattle location – the Seattle Center for the Bumbershoot 2012 Music Festival! Going on its 42nd year, Bumbershoot is known for bringing a diverse blend of music, film, comedy, dance, spoken word, visual art and more over three days to Seattle, and this year they continue to deliver. Check out a few of the musical acts we suggest for Day 3 – Monday, September, 3 below:

Reignwolf - 9/3 | 1:00pm | Starbucks Stage

Preview by Bebe Besch:

It’s no surprise that Canadian rocker Reignwolf aka Jordan Cook is taking the stage at Bumbershoot this year, because Seattle’s recently fallen for him and hard.  Cook, now a resident of Seattle, most recently played the Linda Fest at Linda Tavern, put on two highly praised performances at 2012’s Capitol Hill Block Party and also appeared at 2012’s Sasquatch Music Festival.  Dubbed a “photographer’s dream,” Cook uses a live stage to his full ability as he pummels through his mix of edgy and relavant alternative rock.  Don’t be surprised when he performs on top of his kick drum, or when he tears through the most energetic guitar riffs Seattle’s had the pleasure of experiencing as of late. You really won’t want to be that one person among your friends who hasn’t caught one of Reignwolf’s incredible sets this year – make the time to see him perform second of the day at the Starbucks Stage on the final day of Bumbershoot 2012.

LP - 9/3 | 4:30pm | Starbucks Stage

L.P. (aka Laura Pergolizzi) has distinct vocals that no journalist can do justice describing through written word.  Her album Into the Wild is a perfect third offering with her unique sound, and many have been taking note of the vulnerable singer and her chops after appearing at noteworthy festivals like SXSW, and now Bumbershoot. Though her talents are obvious through vocal ability, L.P. has a background in songwriting and is responsible for songs by BackStreet Boys, Rhianna, Vicci Matinez and more. You’ll have two chances to catch L.P. with all of her qurik and passion – once at her official performance at the Starbucks Stage in the afternoon, and once at the Free Yr Radio / KEXP / The Vera Project stage at 7:30p.m. of Day 3.

Best Coast - 9/3 | 1:45pm | Main Stage

Preview by Melissa Daniels:

This Los Angeles based duo is known for their low fidelity surf-pop sound. Best Coast is comprised of female vocalist Bethany Cosentino and multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno. Their sophomore project, The Only Place, was easily one of the most anticipated albums of 2012 and is more polished than their debut project. The Only Place features homesick lyrics that are the result of Cosentino’s feelings of embarking on an extensive tour following their debut release. The now 25 year old revealed that the time spent on the road was a challenging period of maturation, and the result is present in her lyrics.

Lights - 9/3 | 8:00pm | Exhibition Hall

Preview by Melissa Daniels:

If you plan to catch Lights on Monday, be prepared for some gritty electro-pop that is sure to knock you off your feet. Lights’ most recent album, Siberia, is a different venture than what she’s produced previously. Veering away from her desire for perfection, she pulled a lot of inspiration from the gritty sounds of dubstep. “The new stuff is raw and gritty but still pop with a focus on the melodies. It’s the marriage of those two that make it really different and unlike anything I’ve ever done before,” she says. That’s what you get when you mix pop sense with experimental inclination. Lights collaborated with Canadian based Holy F*ck to achieve the bold sounds that we hear on Siberia.

Bombino – 9/3 | 2:15pm | TuneIn Stage

Preview by Lindsey Scully:

Bombino, Omara Moctar by birth, was born and raised in Niger and led a nomadic life with the rest of his Tuareg community, including many years of exile. To say the climactic events in Niger affected Bombino’s music would be an understatement, many of his songs like “Tebsakh Dalet” are inspired by such events. Bombino produces raw blues-inspired electric guitar solos that also mimic a slowed down version of surf-rock legend Dick Dale. He also uses his native language alongside heirloom instruments that pay homage to his heritage. Bombino’s latest release Agadez has been garnering a lot of media attention in the past year, which has resulted in his North American Tour that includes several festivals like Bumbershoot and Pickathon.

Low – 9/3 | 6:45pm | Sub Pop Stage

Preview by Lindsey Scully:

Signed to Sub Pop since 2005, the veteran slowcore trio Low has pioneered the genre with their breathy vocals and atmospheric music. The husband-and-wife team Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker paired up with bassist John Nichols in the early 90s to create a different genre than the highly popular grunge that was taking over the nation. Nichols has since moved on and Steve Garrington stepped in as bassist. The group focuses on gritty electric guitar, ambient backbeats and airy vocals that mesmerize any that listen. Low’s latest release C’Mon features the hit single “Try To Sleep”, which gained viral fame with their music video featuring John Stamos.
