Summer wedding craze got you down? Seattle’s own Atomic Bride promises to be anything but a tame exchanging of vows, more like a hopping punk rock after party. The music of Atomic Bride is at its heart, explosive garage rock, with doses of heavy metal and psychedelic thrown in to spice things up. Lead vocals are traded off between Chris Cool and Astra, leading to the occasional lively bantering of lyrics in songs like Cocoanut Grove, in which Cool will shout, “let’s dance,” only to be countered by Astra’s sassy retort of, “nuh uh.” Other tracks such as “Oxy Cloud” open with Cool sounding like the hip lead singer of a vintage punk rock band, only to end on a slow, lazy note almost as if the band gradually decided to quit rocking out and ended up lazing on a tropical island instead.
Atomic Bride has been in the local music scene since 2006, and they’re DIY in every possible way. Come out and support their next show this Thursday at Chop Suey. Two lucky readers will have the chance to see these guys for FREE. For your chance, e-mail contests@seattleshowgal.com with the phrase “Marry Me Atomic!” in the subject line. You know you want to get frisky! Don’t forget to include your full name in the e-mail or you will have zero chance of wining.
