Holy  F! @ Espace Réunion | Sept. 30

After incredible performances by Bad Tits (featuring Sebastien Grainger of Death From Above 1979) and Indian Jewelry, the crowd was whipped up into a frenzy and let it all out during an energetic set by Holy F!.  Judging by their intense performance, they are just the latest band from Toronto challenging Montreal as the music capital of Canada (sorry, Vancouver).  Their latest LP, Latin on Young Turks Records, was the source of much of the nights music, and the  dance friendly single “Red Lights” certainly did its job.  Made up of four musicians- drums, bass, and two dudes with electronics- Holy F! make a unique brand of live electronic music, relying on improvisation and  unusual  sound sources in lieu of relying on laptops, programing, samples, or other common tools of the trade. As a result the band has the energy of a rock band, but the hypnotic builds and tones of dance music.  Taking the stage at 2am, this combination  made their set easily one of the highlights of the festival, a  feeling that is clearly visibile in the ecstasy of the crowd.
