Chicagoans, music lovers, and the seemingly endless followers of Pitchfork will be gathering in Union Park for the 3 day Pitchfork Music Festival which will include acts Feist, Vampire Weekend, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, Kendrick Lamar, Grimes, Beach House, and many more. If you have the fortunate chance to make it out, you’ll most likely be knee deep in hipsters, cool dads, and pretentious punks, but you’ll also be surrounded by people who truly care about the music they are there to see, a rarity to say the least.
Here are some artists opening up the festival on Friday that you won’t want to miss:
Feist will be headlining the festival, her undeniably intoxicating vocals closing out the night. Leslie Feist, aside from being a beautiful sight, enraptures her audience time and again with her impressive lyricism and range. The Canadian native shows off her skill both vocally and instrumentally, playing away effortlessly on her guitar as she sings. The first night of any festival often sets the tone for the weekend, and with Feist performing it should be anything but forgettable. Check out the single “The Bad In Each Other” from her latest album Metals below:
Dirty Projectors will be performing just before sunset, a perfect time to check out some of the new music from their upcoming LP Swing Lo Magellan out July 10. With their cutting vocals and relentlessly innovative sound, the Dirty Projectors bring their own instrumentation and style to the stage, a performance that will undoubtedly be unique in every aspect. Check out the new track “Dance For You” off their forthcoming album below.
A$AP Rocky will be playing earlier in evening. The buzz around this young rapper out of Harlem is enough to make sure there will be a big turnout for the show. Working with producer Clams Casino, (who will be performing that same day) A$AP Rocky has proven himself not only talented but relevant in the fast-paced trendsetting world of our generation’s hip hop.
Purity Ring are newcomers to the music scene with their first music video appearing only recently and their debut album, Shrines, dropping later this month on July 24. Engulf yourself in the hauntingly beautiful vocals of singer Megan James and the powerful production from Corin Roddick. These two rookies have proven both in their recordings and on the stage that they’re one act you definitely won’t want to miss.
Big K.R.I.T. broke out from the hip hop underground back in 2011 when making the cover of XXL along with their freshman class that year. Although he is regarded as a newcomer by many, K.R.I.T. has been in the game since 2005, releasing a catalogue of impressive lyricism, production, and style. Listen to the track “Just Touched Down” off his 2010 mixtape K.R.I.T. Wuz Here.
