Pitchfork Day 3 2012: Kendrick Lamar
Posted by Kevin KloeckerKendrick Lamar is unique enough for the likes of Lady Gaga to come check out his set, so you can assume he was no disappointment. As we waited under the shade of the trees Kendrick finally emerged pumped for his set. He plays mostly off of Section.80 finishing almost every song with a carefully constructed a capella verse before the DJ blasts us with bass again.
Apparently Grimes, Kendrick, and Lady Gaga were enjoying a joint backstage before the set, and although that’s most likely a rumor, the crowd was indulging for themselves. The set is a chilled out trip while at the same time it reflects a concentration unparalleled that weekend.
As it’s been mentioned before, Kendrick has potential. The dinosaurs like him, the crowds like him, and now after his recent track with Dr. Dre, the radio digs him too. Be sure and look out for Kendrick playing a show by you soon, it’ll be worth it.
