Do you remember as a child being told to ‘behave in public’, ‘use your inside voice’, or ‘sit still’? How about a time you voiced your opinion about the food you had at a party in front of the host and the immediate appalled reaction from an adult? Were you told to keep your thoughts to yourself? How many times have you heard, ‘be nice’ or ‘say thank you’ being told to a child for some asinine reason?
Most of us have been conditioned over the years to filter our reaction to the world or in extreme cases, lie about how we actually feel. Somewhere along we have forgotten to truly express ourselves. Possessed by Paul James did exactly the opposite. He used strings, vocals and his body as a medium to convey every gritty part he cared to share. The crowd was starving for this type of raw performance. They ate it up. It was the closest thing to a King Kong bawl without any destruction and or casualties involved.
He sang an a cappella “Older in My Body” and stomped his feet on the foot board as he dominated the crowd. When he bellowed, “I’m much older in my body than my heart. Ya ya ya ya”, it was as commanding as a tribal warrior dance. His performance embodied self confidence; abandon socially acceptable behavior and completely unleash yourself from constraints. When you do, you will find a piece of yourself that had been buried all these years. Even if it’s just a fleeting moment of sheer truth or enlightenment, you must find it. Empower yourself to get reacquainted with what we were all born with, pureness. Possessed by Paul James, thank you for the memorable show and tell.
