The energy in Pickathon’s indoor venue, The Galaxy Barn, was palpable before Thee Oh Sees took the stage. After a day of partying, the crowd was in the mood to let some energy out, and they certainly did so once Thee Oh Sees unleashed their particularly satisfying brand mix of post-punk and psychedelia. Delayed and spacey vocals clashed with fast, driving drums and some mean guitar grooves to get the people moving. Although Pickathon is primarily a “roots” music festival, filled with music that could be described as “Americana,” Thee Oh Sees brought a little bit of west coast punk to the stage, and the results were more than satisfactory. An unexpected highlight of the show was the face that the drummer insisted on making while he was playing, it looked as if he was intent on giving everyone in the audience the evil eye.
