Pickathon 2012: The Wood Brothers

If The Wood Brothers look familiar, it is because bassist Chris Wood also happens to be in another project that might ring a bell: Medeski, Martin, and Wood. The music he plays with his brother Oliver in The Wood Brothers is a bit less jazzy and more folk/rock focused, but the results are equally worthy of praise. Chris Wood absolutely destroyed his upright bass, working the neck with zeal as his brother crooned and strummed his guitar. The third musician provided percussion with both a drumset and also with a guitar that was rigged with various other gadgets, like miniature cymbals and a block for tapping out rhythms. The Wood Brothers also happened to play in the sweet spot of the day, right when the sun started to go behind the tree-line, encouraging more festival attendees to step out onto the main lawn and take in the music.
