Friday night’s stage at Neumos was swarming with worthwhile acts – headlining was Lower Dens of Baltimore, who entranced the audience by sprawling through songs off of their latest album Nootropics. Each song completing the new album is a treat to listen to both on the record and off in the live setting. The stage was lit sparingly with projected imagery overlapping each band member, adding subtle visuals to the shoegaze atmosphere.
Opening noise-pop band No Joy also embraced the stage with each member hiding behind massive locks of hair, or, if without, behind a mask. Pummeling notes ring through the speakers as lead singer Laura Lloyd fills any empty air space with her notes. Alan Resnick’s time on stage was brief but hilarious. Resnick relied on confusion humor as he spoke to a illustrated projection of his own face, who cued the punchline of his own jokess.
