Peter Hook, bassist for Joy Division and New Order, has announced that the Factory Records venue inside their offices will be utilized for a master’s degree in Music Industry Management and Promotion alongside the University of Central Lancashire.

Hook has a hefty amount of experience co-running notoriously financially-crippling Manchester venue, The Haçienda. He will be a mentor, giving advice about how to support the British music industry, and stated: “I am excited to be involved in a project that’s going to offer genuine opportunities.”

In 2002 Hook published a memoir on his time running the space entitled “The Hacienda: How Not To Run A Club”. Hook has commented numerous times about running the venue and previously stated that it would have cost less for New Order to have handed everyone in the queue a tenner each and turned them away than to keep financing the venue.

NME recently announced that Joy Division recorded the greatest track in the past sixty years for “Love Will Tear Us Apart”. Hook had this to say about the massive accomplishment: “It still sends a shiver down my spine. Especially because I know the people involved. It masquerades as this cute little pop song, which is one of its delightful ironies. I would’ve hated it to be about me.”

Below is the video for Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart”.
