The painting will be auctioned off at London’s Cob Gallery and is expected to fetch as much as $129 thousand. The items, including clothing, diaries and instruments, go to auction Friday, May 11.
According to The Independent, Doherty has expressed interest in pursuing a career as a serious artist. Planning to work with a technique known as “arterial splatter” in which the artist uses a syringe to spray the canvas with blood, Doherty states, “Blood plays the starring role in my work. Sweat and tears are often waiting in the wings.”
In addition to the Winehouse self-portrait, many of the other pieces up for auction are collaborative works, including contributions from Charlotte Gainsbourg, members of The Libertines, and Doherty’s young son.
