Olympia’s K Records Chronicled in New Book

Olympia, Washington’s K Records is chronicled in a new book, “Love Rock Revolution: K Records and the Rise of Independent Music” by author Mark Baumgarten.

The book Sasquatch Books published tome, written by City Arts Magazine editor-at-large Mark Baumgarten, hits shelves July 10.

K Records, co-founded by Beat Happening‘s Calvin Johnson, cemented its underground reputation by releasing music by the likes of  Beck, Modest Mouse, the Microphones, Mirah, Built to Spill, the Gossip and many more during its 30 year history.

The book includes interviews with many of the bigger players in the 1980s and 1990s indie underground.

“Love Rock Revolution” is accompanied by a digital soundtrack of music from the label’s 30 year existence. The comp is available to download at the author’s website from July 10-July 17. You can check out a sampler of the comp here. Check out the comp’s tracklist below.
