Where Rick Froberg goes, blistering rock is sure to follow. A leader of the Post-Hardcore scene, Froberg headed bands like the underrated Pitchfork, the influential Drive Like Jehu and the near-perfect Hot Snakes. Twenty years later, Froberg, now fronting the John Reis-less Obits, continues to rock hard and rock long. Obits’ debut album I Blame You was released in 2009 to rave reviews and the band was commended for its “rapid tunes” and “powerhouse performances,” accolades that are no stranger to Froberg throughout his entire career.

However, it seems that a half-dozen critically acclaimed albums aren’t enough for the man. Obits return with a new record on Sub Pop, Moody, Standard and Poor, on March 29th. No doubt the album will be filled with the growl and gristle that the wiry and wily Froberg is known for. Of course that means that the stellar live act is hitting the road soon , but no Seattle date has been announced yet. We’ll keep you posted.

Here’s a (slightly disgusting) video of “Pine On” from their first album.
