@ The Underground Events Center | 06 /11 | 7 pm | $ 10

The festival season here in the northwest is in full swing for sure.  Fresh off the heels of Sasquatch is Noise For The Needy, Seattle’s biggest non profit festival of the year.  All proceeds for this years event will go to benefit Teen Feed,  an organization dedicated to helping young homeless people get off the streets before they get too used to being out there.  It’s a great organization.  The show at the Underground Events Center this Friday will have a variety of artists performing, they are all really great and we would highly recommend checking them all out and getting to this show.  We have FIVE PAIRS OF TICKETS TO GIVEAWAY TO THIS EVENT! For your chance to win a pair, e-mail contests@seattleshowgal.com with the phrase “Take me underground!” in the subject line. Be sure to give us your name for the guest list. Winners will be notified by e-mail. Here’s a quick look at two of the bands that will be there.

The Maldives

The Maldives are definitely holding down a well deserved spot in Seattle’s alt country scene.  On the verge of releasing their second album, these guys are putting out solid tunes.  If you have a pension for the Drive By Truckers, you will definitely be into The Maldives.  Speaking from personal experience, these guys put on one seriously kick ass live show.  And there’s no better reason to go check them out than This Friday.  Good Music for a good cause is a thing of true beauty.

Hypatia Lake

Hypatia Lake is a real band, that plays songs about ficticious things.  Concept albums are a relatively common thing these days, but a concept band is something entirely different.  This local outfit writes songs about an imaginary place and the lives lived by the residents of this place.  It’s a really interesting idea, accompanied by stellar musicianship.  In a not so surprising fashion, Hypatia Lake plays experimental psychedelic rock over which they spin their yarns of the lives and times of these imaginary people and places.  It may not be for everyone, but if your musical taste leans towards something that is a little less accessible, but well worth the effort, this is definitely a band you will want to check out.
